Hello and welcome to my site! My name is Jonathan, but I also go by JL. I enjoy traveling, admiring architecture and design, and learning about anything mechanical. My passion for design began at a very young age when I learned how to draw. While I occasionally illustrated cartoons and sceneries, my style became more technical as my interest in buildings and vehicles grew.
As a teenager, I got my hands on a video camera, sparking a fascination with storytelling, cinematography, and editing. Watching movies became a hobby, not just for entertainment, but to study the color filters and visual effects used in scenes. By the time I finished high school, I decided to pursue a degree in Digital Media, which involved graphic design, video editing, animation, and 3D arts.
While enrolled at Kendall College of Art and Design, I participated in competitions and worked on side projects. I won first place in the CSI Expo Poster Design Competition, teamed up with classmates to represent our campus at the Kalamazoo Animation Festival International, and produced a documentary about the local DJ scene and its impact on the music community.
In the years following college, my work experience spanned various media types, from digital to print, across the country. Some of my favorite years were with Crux Jinx Productions in California, where I designed graphics to promote social mixers and merchandise, created on-set props, edited videos, and produced motion graphics for various projects. Another highlight was my time at Bench Craft Company in Oregon, where I worked for over six years, gaining numerous skills in prepress, ad design, and client interaction.
Currently, I am in the Midwest, continuing to help with graphic design and video production. If you have any questions or need assistance with a project, feel free to send me a message. Thanks for stopping by!
Take care.
